Tribal Traditions Celebrated at Annual Winter Blessing
WORLEY, Idaho (November 20, 2017) — For the Coeur d’Alene Tribe winter is a quiet season, a time for reflection and storytelling. In honor of this time the Coeur d’Alene Casino welcomes the return of Winter Blessing Thursday, Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
“This event is an opportunity to come together in peace and unity and share the Coeur d’ Alene Tribe’s culture,” said Laura Stensgar, director of public affairs and cultural tourism. “Historically, during the cold winter months, the Coeur d’Alenes gathered in their lodges, retelling the stories of their ancestors.
The evening will include theatrical storytelling, a canoe revitalization ceremony, a traditional “Prairie Chicken” dance contest and complimentary fry bread and huckleberry jam.
The night will also include special announcement of Coeur d’ Alene Casino sponsored charity winners from 93.7 the Mountain.
“Since the property was established, the casino resort has made a commitment to continue the tradition of sharing and this year we are proud to be able to donate $20,000 to local charities,” said Stensgar.
Winter Blessing will be held Thursday, Dec. 14. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the event will begin at 6 p.m. Attendance is free.
